2019 Museum Recap

Since we’re all about FRESH design, we need plenty of time away from the screen and lots of art in our lives to keep the inspiration flowing. This year, I did more hiking than art-gawking (which I’m totally fine with too), but here are some standout museums, exhibits, and installations I enjoyed immensely in 2019:

  • Kimbell Museum (Fort Worth, TX) “Balenciaga in Black” exhibit

  • Behind the scenes with Lindsay’s Art Cart at the Arlington Museum of Art (Arlington, TX) during the “Hiroshige: Along the Eastern Road” exhibit

  • Museum of Fine Arts Houston (Houston, TX) “Transparent Migrations” by Amalia Mesa-Bains; “La sordidez/Sordidness” by Antonio Berni; “Vivir sin seguro/To Live without Assurance” by Rómulo Macció.

  • Contemporary Arts Museum (Houston, TX) “If I can’t dance, it’s not my revolution!” by Steven Evans

Inspired Women Luncheon Recap

Organized by the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce Women's Alliance, the Inspired Women Luncheon is the largest and most lovely event of its kind in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Green Apple Lane was proud to sponsor, as the graphic design sponsor for the sixth year, while the fabulous Live! by Loews Arlington hotel served as the new venue in 2019. Everything was top-notch, from the food, to the service, ambiance, and decor.

The theme of this year’s event was, “Finding Your Passion and Purpose.” Those sentiments were woven throughout the programming and details of the day, from the professional development session, to the especially moving keynote address from the esteemed Thasunda Brown Duckett, CEO of Consumer Banking at Chase. Her message of balancing life like a diversified financial portfolio versus the standard “work-life balance” challenge we all face, was powerful. “When she saw her life as a balancing act, she felt like she was consistently failing at being a mother, executive, and philanthropist. Now, she views her life as a diversified portfolio that is made up of her passions,” says the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce. “She urges everyone to create their portfolio by first writing down everything that matters to them. The structure of her portfolio changes depending on the demands of her office or family. However, she knows which portfolio structure will bring her the most joy.”

Client Spotlight: The Hive

When the owner of Sugar Bee Sweets came to us with the idea for a new lunch spot called The Hive, we were over the moon excited to brand it! We started with a simple and clean logo in navy, mustard yellow, and white. We set up the ‘H’ icon to be able to stand alone as a brand mark in any combination of the three colors as well.

A few of our favorite pieces we've designed so far for The Hive include a floral tray liner, their website, menu, a mural of their logo and other graphic elements shown on the outside of the building (our concept flawlessly executed by Luisito Design), two embroidered hat designs, a sponsorship ad, and outdoor A-frame signage.

Remember from the Sugar Bee Sweets brand spotlight that the owner loves to blend masculine and feminine design elements? You’ll see that style echoed in The Hive’s decor - walls of hexagons on navy surround the tables and chairs, with a wall of air plants and a live-edge wood lunch counter across from the sandwich line, and white subway tile with black grout on the other large walls, behind the line and the drink area, which houses their large menu. The room is finished out with floral touches and ingredient packaging/overstock on open shelving. There’s even an outdoor patio to enjoy!

We’re so proud of the branding we’ve developed for The Hive, and can’t wait to watch the buzz continue to grow!
